Two significant developments in search engine optimization (SEO) have recently been released (April 2011).

1. Google has released an update to its results page positioning algorithm (Panda). This release is specifically related to Google's avowed intent to counter all techniques designed to improve positioning on its results pages that are not natural (black hat techniques).

2. SENuke X has been launched. It is a sophisticated suite of programs designed to improve positioning of web pages on search engine results pages such as Google by semi-automatically placing numerous unnatural backlinks around the web.

These two SEO developments are diametrically opposed.

In common with all search engines, Google is intent on delivering the best pages for a search at the top of its results pages. Search engines are owned by commercial companies and they have annual incomes measured in billions of dollars acquired through advertisements. The revenue of each search engine is directly related to its popularity. Search engines compete to provide the best set of results for a search.

In this article, the author looks at the claimed benefits of SENuke X and questions whether:-

1. It will assist websites to outsmart Google's regularly updated and robust anti-black hat mechanisms?

2. Could there be a better technique than semi-automated off-page optimization programs?

SENuke X is an upgrade of the original SENuke program. It took 18 months and $120,000 to develop.

Google employs a team of mathematicians and computer programmers, all at the level of PhD and led by Matt Cutts, specifically to quickly identify new black hat techniques and produce effective counter measures. Matt Cutts' annual salary alone is likely to exceed $120,000.

SENuke X has stealth options including:

1. Links can be scheduled to avoid detectable surges.

2. Links can be placed on a variety of categories of websites including Social Networks, Article Directories, Social Media, Social Bookmarking, Forums and Press Releases.

Staying under the Google radar

The video tutorials available to SENuke X subscribers advise that users should aim to stay "under the Google radar" confirming that the program is black hat.

PageRank and Article Directories

PageRank is the most important indicator available to us on the authority associated with web pages and web sites as recognized by Google.

• The authority of a web page on a website is determined by the PageRank of the HomePage. This is the top factor in the Google algorithm.

• The value of an incoming link depends on the PageRank of the web page giving the link (not the PageRank of the HomePage) divided by the number of links on that linking page.

There is a suggestion that if you successfully place an article in a directory with a HomePage PageRank of 6, the PageRank used in the link value calculation is 6. That would not be correct. SENuke X indicates the HomePage PageRank of the Article Directory websites to which it can send spun articles. The new page created for such an article, however, when it is indexed would have a PageRank 0! The value of a link from a web page with PageRank 0 will be zero. If your article directory page has good content then in time others might link to it and its PageRank will rise but this is by no means guaranteed.

Social Networks, Social Media and the Nofollow Attribute.

Facebook and YouTube and related websites are aware of the vogue for placing backlinks on their websites purely to extract precious link juice for the benefit of websites placing the backlinks. This has been countered by the automatic inclusion of the "nofollow" attribute to such backlinks.

SENuke X can semi-automatically place backlinks on Social Networks and Social Media websites. There is, however, no indication as to whether these backlinks would be subject to the nofollow attribute which blocks any potential SEO value in the link.

SEO and SENuke X

SENuke offers no means to evaluate the current authority of a website.

An SENuke training video tutorial looks at the example keyword 'American cars 2010' and indicates that this 'Could be tough' from the difficulty point of view. However, according to SENuke X "With enough SEO you can get there but it is going to take a lot more work."

The average HomePage PageRank for the top 10 web pages for 'American cars 2010' is 6.8 on Google.com. You can check this manually or use Keyword SEO Pro to do the analysis for you. This level of PageRank would require 600,000 average value incoming links. If a website HomePage PageRank is less than 5, the chance for it reaching the top 10 on Google for 'American cars 2010' is remote and you can forget trying to get hundreds of thousands of indexed links with any semi-automatic backlinking campaign program. A little time spent investigating keyword difficulty allows optimizers to focus their time and efforts on the achievable rather than chasing rainbows.

SENuke X is well designed and has stealth options designed to stay under the Google radar. I consider it to be the best program I have tested in its category.

Will SENuke X assist you to outsmart Google's regularly updated robust protective mechanisms?

If you would wish to put the program to the test, I would offer two recommendations:

1. Monitor your backlinks with SEO SpyGlass to check the number of new links that are being indexed by Google as a result of your efforts with SENuke X.

2. Google will probably be unmoved if you indulge in a few black hat backlinks. Dozens of such backlinks, however, could send your website into the sandbox and all your pages will be removed from Google's index.

Could there be a better SEO technique than semi-automated off-page optimization?

HomePages that are competing for a keyword receive a boost in their effective PageRank to between 4 and 5. This is the second factor in the Google algorithm. It is a free gift from Google and it has the potential to be far more powerful than any automated backlinking campaign program.

Although at a relatively early stage of my research, I have become increasingly convinced that the time and money spent on producing an index page on a subdomain or a new website will provide a more effective means to compete for a targetable keyword than using a semi-automated backlinking campaign program, even one as sophisticated as SENuke X.

 

When you have focused on the most appropriate keywords, these can be analysed by Keyword SEO Pro to deterine keyword difficulty. You will then be able to determine whethere a keyword is in range for top positioning in Google depending on whether you plan to use your home page or an internal page and the PageRank of your home page.
